Al-Maktoum College of engineering and technology offers Basic Technician Certificate Programmes for the following Courses:

  1. Electrical Engineering
  2. The programme consists a total of 18 modules with 8 fundamental modules and 10 core modules that spread over one academic year. Each semester has 17 weeks of which 15 weeks are for continuous assessment and 2 weeks for examinations. The whole programme has 34 weeks that spread over two semesters. The modules in the programme are classified in the following subsections:-

    1. Fundamental Modules

      This refers to those modules that provide a range of basic skills, knowledge and principles appropriate for a graduate in the field of Electrical Engineering as well as for the underpinning and effective study of the main theme of the programme. They also provide a viable foundation for further studies and life-long learning.

    2. Core Modules

      Modules associated with the core studies provide the development of the main theme of the programme. They broadly represent the main areas of activity in the respective disciplines, and the basic treatment of them will enable graduates to rapidly become effective technicians in the industries associated with the discipline.

      These modules are taught with fundamental ones so as to enable students gain an appreciation of the nature and complexities of engineering activities. In order to achieve an integration of these modules there will be considerable use of mode of integrative laboratory and workshop, lectures and assignments. In addition, case studies will be used in the module.

  3. Electrical and Electronics Engineering
  4. The programme consists of a total of 20 modules with 8 fundamental modules and 12 core modules that spread over one academic year. Each academic year has two semesters. Each semester has 17 weeks of which 15 weeks are for course duration and 2 weeks for examinations and marking. The whole programme has 34 weeks that spread over two semesters. The modules in the programme are classified in the following subsections:-

    1. Fundamental Modules

      They provide a range of basic skills, knowledge and principle appropriate for a graduate in the field of electronics and telecommunication engineering as well as for the underpinning and effective study of the main theme of the programme. They also provide a viable foundation for further studies and lifelong learning.

    2. Core Modules

      Modules associated with the core studies provide the development of the main theme of the programme. They broadly represent the main areas of activity in the respective disciplines, and the in-depth treatment of them will enable graduate to rapidly become effective technician in the industries associated with the discipline.

      These modules are taught with fundamental ones so as to enable students gain an appreciation of the nature and complexities of engineering activities. In order to achieve an integration of these modules there will be considerable use of mode of integrative laboratory, Lectures and assignment work. In addition, case studies will be used in the module.

  5. Information Systems and Network Technology (ISNT)
  6. The programme consist a total of 14 modules with 7 fundamental modules and 7 core modules that spread over one academic year. Each semester has 17 weeks of which 15 weeks are for continuous assessment and 2 weeks for examinations. The whole programme has 34 weeks that spread over two semesters.The modules in the programme are classified in the following subsections:-

    1. Fundamental Modules

      They provide a range of basic skills, knowledge and principle appropriate for a graduate in the field of Information System and Network Technology as well as for the underpinning and effective study of the main theme of the programme. The modules at this level will include Algebra, Measurement, Current Electricity and Energy, Basic Electronics, Entrepreneurship concepts and context, Technical English, Trigonometry and Vectors, and Communication Skills. They also provide a viable foundation for further studies and lifelong learning.

    2. Core Modules

      Modules associated with the core studies provide the development of the main theme of the programme. They broadly represent the main areas of activity in the respective disciplines, and the in-depth treatment of them will enable graduate to rapidly become effective technicians in the industries associated with the discipline.

      These modules are taught with fundamental ones so as to enable students gain an appreciation of the nature and complexities of engineering activities. In order to achieve an integration of these modules there will be considerable use of mode of integrative laboratory, workshop, lectures and assignments.

      In addition, case studies will be used in the module. These modules will include: Computer System Maintenance and Repair, Local Area Network, Computer basics Word processing and Spreadsheet, Computer Peripherals Maintenance and Repair, Wide area Network, Database fundamentals, presentations and internet and Industrial Practical Training.

  7. Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering
  8. The programme consists of a total of 20 modules with 09 fundamental modules and 11 core modules that spread over one academic year. Each academic year has two semesters. Each semester has 17 weeks of which 15 weeks are for course duration and 2 weeks for examinations and marking. The whole programme has 30 weeks that spread over two semesters. The modules in the programme are classified in the following subsections:-

    1. Fundamental Modules

      They provide a range of basic skills, knowledge and principle appropriate for a graduate in the field of electronics and telecommunication engineering as well as for the underpinning and effective study of the main theme of the programme. They also provide a viable foundation for further studies and lifelong learning.
