Diploma: (NTA Level 5-6):

Al-Maktoum College of engineering and technology offers Ordinary Diploma programmes for the following Courses:

  1. Electrical Engineering
  2. The programme consists of a total of 30 modules with 9 fundamental modules and 21 core modules that spread over two academic years. Each academic year has two semesters. Each semester has 17 weeks of which 15 weeks are for course duration and 2 weeks for examinations and marking. The whole programme has 68 weeks that spread over four semesters. The modules in the programme are classified in the following subsections:-

    1. Fundamental Modules

      This refers to those modules studied in semester 1 to 2. They provide a range of basic skills, knowledge and principles appropriate for a graduate in the field of Electrical Engineering as well as for the underpinning and effective study of the main theme of the programme. They also provide a viable foundation for further studies and lifelong learning.

    2. Core Modules

      Modules associated with the core studies provide the development of the main theme of the programme. They broadly represent the main areas of activity in the respective disciplines, and the in-depth treatment of them will enable graduate to rapidly become effective technician in the industries associated with the discipline.

      These modules are taught with fundamental ones so as to enable students to gain an appreciation of the nature and complexities of engineering activities. In order to achieve an integration of these modules there will be considerable use of mode of integrative laboratory, workshop, lectures and assignment work. In addition, case studies will be used in the module.

  3. Electrical and Electronics Engineering
  4. The programme comprises 31 modules that spread over two academic year. Each module is covered in one semester of 17 weeks. Each academic year has two semesters, i.e., a total of 34 weeks. Therefore the whole programme has a total of 68 weeks of study. The modules are classified into fundamental and core modules. The modules in the programme are classified in the following subsections:-

    1. Fundamental Modules

      This refers to those modules studied in semester 1 to 2. They provide a range of basic skills, knowledge and principles appropriate for a graduate in the field of Electrical Engineering as well as for the underpinning and effective study of the main theme of the programme. They also provide a viable foundation for further studies and lifelong learning.

    2. Core Modules

      Modules associated with the core studies provide the development of the main theme of the programme. They broadly represent the main areas of activity in the respective disciplines, and the in-depth treatment of them will enable graduate to rapidly become effective technician in the industries associated with the discipline.

  5. Information Systems and Network Technology (ISNT)
  6. This programme consists of a total of 34 modules with 13 fundamental modules and 21 core modules that spread over two academic years. Each academic year has two semesters. Each semester has 17 weeks of which 15 weeks are for course duration and 2 weeks for examinations and marking. The whole programme has 68 weeks that spread over four semesters. The modules in the programme are classified in the following subsections:-

    1. Fundamental Modules

      This refers to those modules studied in semester 1 to 2 in the two academic years. They provide a range of basic skills, knowledge and principle appropriate for a graduate in the field of computer engineering as well as for the underpinning and effective study of the main theme of the programme.

      The modules at this level will include Matrices, differentiation and integration, Business Communication, ICT Entrepreneurship and Management, Statistics and probability, Technical writing, Business Financial Management and Accounting, Conics and Differential Equations, Engineering study skills, Electromagnetism, Formalization, Internationalization and E-business, Complex number, numerical methods and series, Technical Writing and Business Planning. They also provide a viable foundation for further studies and lifelong learning.

    2. Core Modules

      Modules associated with the core studies provide the development of the main theme of the programme. They broadly represent the main areas of activity in the respective disciplines, and the in-depth treatment of them will enable graduate to rapidly become effective technician in the industries associated with the discipline.

      These modules are taught with fundamental ones so as to enable students gain an appreciation of the nature and complexities of engineering activities. In order to achieve an integration of these modules there will be considerable use of mode of integrative laboratory, Lectures and assignment work. In addition, case studies will be used in the module.

      These modules will include: : Fundamentals of programming, Operating systems, Digital electronics, Data Communication, Database Management system, Data structure and file handling, Introduction to Microprocessor, Internetworking, Object Oriented Programming, Visual Basic, Industrial Practical Training, Introduction to multimedia, Introduction to system analysis and design, Network management, Basic Computer Security and Data Integrity, Project Proposal, Web Design and Hosting, Multimedia Application Production, Object oriented programming, ICT Policies and Management, Project implementation.

  7. Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering
  8. The programme consists of a total of 36 modules with 12 fundamental modules and 24 core modules that spread over two academic years. Each academic year has two semesters. Each semester has 17 weeks of which 15 weeks are for course duration and 2 weeks for examinations and marking. The whole programme has 68 weeks that spread over four semesters. The modules in the programme are classified in the following subsections:-

    1. Fundamental Modules

      This refers to those modules studied in semester 1 and 2. They provide a range of basic skills, knowledge and principle appropriate for a graduate in the field of computer engineering as well as for the underpinning and effective study of the main theme of the programme. They also provide a viable foundation for further studies and lifelong learning.

They broadly represent the main areas of activity in the respective disciplines, and the in-depth treatment of them will enable graduate to rapidly become effective technician in the industries associated with the discipline. These modules are taught with fundamental ones so as to enable students gain an appreciation of the nature and complexities of engineering activities.
